AN INTERNSHIP CARRIED OUT AT ETA VENTURES MAMFE
Executive Summary
This internship was done at Eta Ventures Mamfe which lasted for a period of one month from the 1st to the 31st of July, 2018. The main objective of this internship was to acquire practical marketing skills and to write a report in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of a Bachelor of Technology (B-Tech).
During the internship, the intern carried out multiple functions in different department like Chief of Center Office, Chief of Administration and Finance, Accounting Department and Cashier Departments.
In the accounting department, the interns were taught how to calculate the bonus and percentage of customers after every six months. However, the intern focused more in the Marketing Department which involved the physical distribution of goods.
An internal analysis was done wherein the strengths and weaknesses of the company were realized. One of the strength was that, Eta Ventures limited just like other organization aim at making profit for the organization and increases their market shares.
One weakness was Shortage of Stock: The intern observed that there are always shortages of drinks in the warehouse. Drinks always get short that the company cannot satisfy all its customers and thus, this creates crowdiness and customers to scramble for drinks and which leads to problems between the company and its customers.
The Intern recommends that the quantity of drinks sent from the production centre (Bafoussam) should be increased to avoid shortages.
The quantity of drinks sent to Eta Ventures should be multiplied by two and more quantity of beer like “33 Export, Castel, Muitzig and Booster” percentages should be higher than soft drinks because more of beer is been consumed and the number of transportation vehicles should also be increased from the production centre (Bafoussam).
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background to the Internship
Internship can be defined as an opportunity offered by an employer to potential employees called interns to work at a firm for a fixed and limited period of time. Internship are relatively short term in nature with the primary focus on getting experience on the job training and taking what is learned in the classroom and applying it to the local world.
Internship gives an excellent opportunity for young people to question adults about their careers. Internship provides real world experience to those looking to explore or gain the relevant knowledge and skills required to enter into a particular career field. During this period, the student is expected to blend classroom knowledge and theories with real world practice.
During internship, the interns were expected to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
Internship also enables young people to be able to behave themselves responsibly and professionally. Internship helps the intern to have a focus on a particular career.
1.2 Aims and Objective of the Internship
The aim of the internship is to acquire practical marketing skills and to write a report in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of Bachelor of Technology (B-Tech) in Marketing.
Specific Objectives
- To verify and understand the distribution strategies used by ETA Ventures Limited Mamfe,
- To compare some distribution theories with what is applicable in the field,
- To identify the marketing strategies used by ETA Ventures,
- To acquire practical skills in the field of marketing,
- It helps to identify the sales promotional techniques used by Les Brasseries Du Cameroun (SABC).
1.3 Operational Definition of Terms
AREV: This refers to the number of empty crates returned by the sales person from the field after sale activities.
Bonus: This is the extra given paid to customer after a certain period of time according to their purchases made. This extra gain is known before as contract form.
Bon D’expendition/Command Order: This is a document which testifies the quantity and type of goods caused by the Proprietor (drinks and empties) from one center to another.
Customers: These are people who buy from the company and sell to consumers for final consumption.
Defective: This refers to dirt in a drink which makes the drink not fit for consumption.
License: This I an authorization given to customers by the Divisional Officer (D.O) to show as proof when buying to the company.
Off License: It refers to a bar operating from 6:00am to 9:00pm.
On License: It refers to a bar operating from 6:00pm till morning
Palette: It is a system of arranging crates of drinks or empties. For example, 10 by 11 to facilitate counting.
Payment Voucher: It is a document used to pay workers and bills of the company (it is with pay slip).
Reception: This is when a customer issues his tax payer card (tax contribution) through the help of the taxation office.
Return In: They are drinks which were not sold and are brought back to the warehouse.
Salesmen: These are the people who facilitate the distribution of drinks to customers in exchange of money.
Stock: It is the total number of drinks or empties in the warehouse.
Ursine: It is a factory where the drinks are manufactured
