SCHOOL-COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIP AND ITS IMPACT ON EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF PRIVATE SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN FAKO DIVISION, SOUTH WEST REGION OF CAMEROON
Abstract
This study was designed to find out School Community Relationship and its impact on Effective Management of lay private and confessional Secondary Schools in Fako Division, South West Region of Cameroon.
To achieve the objective of the study, the specific objectives used were: to find out the level of financial support and the effective management of lay private and confessional secondary schools in Fako Division, South West Region of Cameroon; to examine the extent to which pedagogic support influences effective management of lay private and confessional secondary schools in Fako Division, South West Region of Cameroon; to find out the impact of administrative support on the effective management of lay private and confessional secondary schools in Fako Division, South West Region of Cameroon; and to find out the impact of infrastructural support on the effective management of lay private and confessional secondary school in Fako Division, South West Region of Cameroon.
The study adopted a survey research design. The sample population for the study was thirty-two (32) principals and thirty-two (32) PTA Presidents used to measure school community relationship and effective management of lay private and confessional secondary school in Fako Division, South West Region of Cameroon.
The principals were selected using the purposive sampling technique. The schools were selected using simple random sampling. Forty (40) closed-ended question items were used to collect data from principals and PTA Presidents. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data collected from demographic information with focus on frequency tables, percentages and graphs.
Data gathered from the respondents on principals and PTA Presidents were statistically analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage counts) while the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient was used to test the research hypotheses formulated in the study.
The findings of the study indicated that: there was a significant positive relationship between financial support and effective management of lay private and confessional Secondary schools in Fako Division, South West Region of Cameroons (p<0.05) with a positive sign of correlation coefficient value R=0.982.
Findings equally affirm that there is a significant, positive relationship between pedagogic support (p<0.05) with a positive correlation coefficient value R=0.864.
Findings also reveals that there is a significant positive strong relationship between Administrative support and effective management of lay private and confessional secondary schools with (p<0.05) with correlation coefficient value of R=0.972.
And Infrastructural support was also found to have a significant positive relationship with effective management of lay private and confessional secondary schools (p<0.05) with a correlation coefficient value of R=0.878. Based on the findings, some recommendations were made by the researcher to the stakeholders of education on the need to maintain healthy and cordial relationships with the community members to gain better support for their schools from the community.
