INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background to the Internship
Internship (industrial training) is a basic requirement mandatory for students to undertake before they can sit for the National Higher Diploma exams organised by the Ministry of Higher Education. The program is also used by the Higher Institute of management studies (HIMS) Buea as a tool to identify and bridge the gap between key professional competence and classroom experience.
This is a long sustained effort by professional institutions and universities at large in attaining their mission of providing quality and highly competitive undergraduate students. The program also provides a real-world experience for those looking to explore or gain the relevant knowledge and skill required to enter a particular career field.
The study is usually short term in nature with the primary focus of getting someone in the job training and taking what is acquired through the classroom and applying it to the real world. During this industrial training, interns generally have field supervisors who assign them a specific task and evaluate the interns’ overall work.
It is worth not that interns can be undergraduate students, high school students, and graduates as adults interested in trying out a new career.
